Yolanda Fernandez

Currently, viewers watch Yolanda Fernandez on News Channel 8's weekend 9 AM and noon newscasts. Fernandez joined Channel 8 in 1989 as a general assignment news reporter.

Yolanda got her start at WKAB-TV in Montgomery, Alabama anchoring local newsbreaks for "Good Morning America." She relocated to WTOG-TV in St. Petersburg where she anchored live updates and worked as a news reporter. Before returning to the Tampa Bay area, Fernandez moved to WCIX-TV in Miami as a general assignment reporter.

A summa cum laude graduate from Troy State University in Alabama, Fernandez holds a B.A. in broadcast journalism, music and modern language. In 1982, she was named Miss Alabama and was third runner-up to Miss America.

She resides in Clearwater with her husband and two children.
