About the Host
Gary Koch's illustrious golf career began at an early age. At the age of 16, he became the youngest player to win the Florida Open. He won three straight Florida State Junior titles 1968-1970. In 1970, he won the U.S. Junior. By the time he graduated from the University of Florida in 1974, he was a three time, first team All-American who had won 10 collegiate tournaments and finished second in two NCAA Championships. Gary was a member of the 1973 NCAA Championship Team at Florida. He represented the United States in the 1973 and 1975 Walker Cup Matches (amateur golf's version of the Ryder Cup) and was a member of the 1974 World Amateur Cup team.
Gary's professional career began in 1975 when he joined the PGA TOUR. Over the next 15 years, Gary competed regularly on Tour and won six events: the 1976 Tallahassee Open; the 1978 Florida Citrus Open; the 1983 Doral-Eastern Open; the 1984 San Diego Open; the 1984 Bay Hill Classic; and the 1988 Las Vegas Invitational. In 2005, Gary will embark on his third season on the Champions Tour (formerly the Senior PGA Tour) and will compete in about 15 tournaments. He has earned a solid reputation as a hard working professional, well respected by his fellow competitors and tournament sponsors alike.
In 1990, Gary formed, Gary Koch Golf, Inc., to focus on golf course design and golf course development opportunities. His first course, 'Las Colinas' at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort near Orlando, Florida opened in 1992. Today, Gary's portfolio includes 12 projects from Florida through the Mid-West.
Also in 1990, Gary joined the ESPN-TV golf broadcast team as an on-course commentator. In 1994, he became the cable network's Golf Analyst covering over 30 PGA Tour and Champions Tour events annually. In addition, Gary's studio work included the ESPN preview shows for each of the majors and "SportsCenter". In January 1997, Gary left ESPN after six years to join NBC-TV as a Golf Analyst for network telecasts of PGA Tour events, USGA major tournaments and the Ryder Cup matches. As part of the NBC golf announce team, Gary will have participated in over 15 event telecasts by the end of the year.
In 1992, Gary was named, "Ambassador of Golf" by the Governor of the State of Florida.
Gary's career in golf began as a teenager. He has found success as a world-class player, noted golf course designer and television broadcaster. In 2006, he will strive to make significant contributions in each of these important segments of the golf industry.
