Truck falls from overpass near nation’s capital; 1 dead

SUITLAND, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a driver was killed when the tractor trailer he was driving fell from a Capital Beltway overpass onto a parkway in a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C.

Maryland State Police say the driver lost control while driving on the outer loop of the beltway early Friday. The truck carrying paper products crashed through a guardrail and landed on the Suitland Parkway below.

Prince George’s County Fire & EMS officials say the driver has died. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Eastbound lanes of Suitland Parkway were closed after the accident. There were no closures reported on the beltway ringing the nation’s capital, but an outer loop exit ramp to the Suitland Parkway was blocked. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
