Orlando church evacuated after suspicious package found

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — An Orlando church was evacuated as the Orlando Fire Department bomb squad investigated a suspicious package that has since been cleared.

Fire department spokeswoman Ashley Papagni tells local media that the First Unitarian Church on East Robinson Street evacuated its members at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police diverted traffic while the bomb squad investigated the package.

Papagni says that an hour and a half later, the object, later identified as a briefcase, was deemed to be safe by authorities.

It is unclear how many people were evacuated during the incident.
