Man gets 10 years for fatal DUI crash

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A southwest Florida man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing two people in a drunken driving crash.

A Lee County judge sentenced 45-year-old Remijio Perez on Thursday after he pleaded no contest to two counts of DUI manslaughter.

Authorities say Perez was intoxicated in November 2013 when he ran a stop sign in Lehigh Acres and crashed into an SUV. The SUV rolled over into a ditch, trapping 56-year-old Charles Bader 66-year-old Michael Katyryniuk under water. Perez was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The News-Press ( ) reports that both men in the SUV died at the scene.
