Brantley hit a three-run homer off of Brewers starter Kyle Lohse (LOHSH) in the third to tie the game at 4-all, then put the Indians ahead for good with an RBI single in the fifth.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals rallied with three in the eighth to beat the New York Mets 4-3 and take a three-game lead over the Mets in the NL East. Rookie center fielder Michael A. Taylor drove in three runs and scored the winning run on a Danny Espinosa double in the three-run eighth inning rally.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have had to put left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas on the disabled list with a torn ligament in his elbow. Such an injury typically requires season-ending Tommy John surgery. He’s been replaced on the roster by Yordano Ventura, who had been sent down to the minors to work on his pitching the day before the injury to Vargas.
NEW YORK (AP) — Baltimore Orioles utility man Steve Pearce has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle on his left side. The move is retroactive to July 19 and it opens a roster spot for pitcher Kevin Gausman, who was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and is starting tonight against the New York Yankees.
