Atlanta airport warns of long lines due to spring break

ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta airport officials are warning of long lines at security checkpoints as spring break travel is expected to bring large crowds through the airport this weekend.

Officials said in a statement that travelers should plan to arrive two hours early for flights within the U.S. and 2 ½ hours early for international travel.

Officials said more than 80,000 travelers a day are expected to pass through security screening locations through the upcoming weekend at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Early Friday morning, the airport’s online updates showed wait times of up to 40 minutes at all three checkpoints in the domestic terminal; and waits of less than 10 minutes in the international terminal.

Atlanta’s airport is the world’s busiest in terms of passenger numbers. It saw 101.5 million passengers in 2015. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
