Riverview bar owner accused of shooting 2 brothers after argument over dog

RIVERVIEW, Fla. (WFLA) – Two people were shot outside a bar in Riverview Friday evening. Witnesses told News Channel 8 that the shooting happened after an argument over a dog.

The shootings occurred at 6:30 p.m. at The Beer Shed, located at 11222 Caso Loma Drive.

Two brothers, Stephan, 69, and Jeffrey Long, 55, and the owner of the establishment, Mark Sullivan, 57, got into a confrontation outside of the bar.

The trio has had ongoing arguments over neighborhood-type issues, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Residents who live in the area, say the brothers live down the road from the The Beer Shed and often the three would fight over traffic and parking.

Friday night, the brothers confronted the bar owner, with Stephan Long punching Sullivan in the face. Sullivan pulled out his pistol, and then noticed one of the brothers was carrying a baseball bat.

Investigators said Sullivan fired at each brother, hitting both. Stephan Long was shot in the chest; Jeffrey Long was shot in the shoulder.

Heather and Michael Womack showed up after the shooting, but saw Stephan Long shot and in the street. As former EMTs they jumped out of the car and to his side to help.

“He was talking. He wanted to go to sleep, but he was conscious,” said Heather  Womack.

“You don’t expect it but you just deal with it as it comes,” added Michael Womack.

A man who didn’t want to be identified, but was at The Beer Shed the night of the shooting tells News Channel 8, he believes Sullivan was defending himself.

“You are not going to take a beating with a baseball bat, so you protect yourself the best you can,” the man said.

The Long brothers were brought to Tampa General Hospital, where they are in critical but stable condition.

No patrons were injured.

No one has been arrested and detectives are still investigating.
