Roosevelt Blvd. reopen, deemed safe after truck carrying excavator hits I-275 overpass

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A tractor-trailer carrying a construction cane hit the Interstate 275 overpass over Roosevelt Boulevard on Tuesday.

According to St. Petersburg police, until FDOT can assess damage to the structure, traffic is closed westbound on Roosevelt from 16th Street to the interstate.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the truck was carrying an excavator that was above the 16 foot limit of the overpass.

Damage to the overpass extended to the north and southbound bridges.

Portions of concrete that fell closed portions of Roosevelt Blvd. for several hours.

Engineers have inspected the overpasses, deemed them safe to continue travel, and repairs will be completed in the near future.
