Adoption and Vacations

  • Staycation is ALL I EVER WANTED: Travel can be difficult right after adoption or during the process of going through adoption, so you can have fun at home with summer activities. You could buy a sandbox for exploration, a kiddie pool to splash around in or set up a sprinkler for play. You can even buy all different sorts of postcards from online and show your family and discuss history of each place and put on your travel list.

  • Think Smaller Distances, Rather than a Long Haul: Travel a short distance to a local summer fun activity. You could explore a local nature trail or go to a splash park or a local beach to splash and play.

  • Perfect Time To Visit Those Relatives: Visit out-of-town family so they can spend time with your new family. This will make priceless memories! Also, if you are the process of adoption, you can let your family members know the process and what to expect. Its a win/win.

  • Photos, Videos and Keepsakes: Take lots of photos and videos of each of these special moments. You can make a DVD of the all the video and use the photos for many different keepsake crafts. You could also hire a professional photographer for a summer-themed photo shoot of your new family. This is especially important when this is your first summer as a family.

  • ·      Leaving Country Is Hard Especially In Adoption Process: For those globetrotters, remember that, unless your adoption is finalized, you’re not allowed to leave the country.  If your timing is going to be cutting it close, make sure you factor in time to get the updated birth certificate and, then, a passport.  If you won’t have plenty of team for each of those steps, it’s better to stay stateside for the first year.  Plus, that’s much easier and more cost-effective with a baby anyway.
