BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — Dozens of people waited hours to get their hands on the hot item of the holiday season.
The Nintendo NES Classic Edition sold out in less than an hour at the Best Buy store along Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.
The line outside was 30 people deep before the store opened. The wait stretched back into the dark hours of the night.
“Well, they closed at 11 p.m., so I was here an hour early,” said David Hernandez, who waited in line for more than 10 hours.
Patience was key.
“It was actually fun because we got to talk with everyone and stuff like that” said Taliah Richardson.
The main topic of conversation during the wait: the item itself.
Nintendo released the mini-version of its popular 1985 console in the U.S. in early November. The $60 item flew off store shelves. Best Buy will stock limited quantities of the console, which comes with 30 retro games like Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros.
“I grew up playing it man—in the 80’s—and my son’s into all the retro stuff,” Hernandez said.
Store workers handed out tickets to the first 40 people in line. They expect more shipments of the console throughout the week, a worker said.
