ST. PETERSBURG, Fl. (WFLA) – A 45-year-old North Florida man is facing driving under the influence charges after he struck a pedestrian Saturday in St. Petersburg.
Joseph Kenneth Deegan of Tallahassee was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and released just after 7 am Sunday after posting a bond of $5,000.
According to a St. Petersburg Police Department report the incident occurred just after 6 pm near the intersection of 29th St. North and 5th Ave. North. The unidentified man was crossing 5th when he was hit by Deegan’s 2003 Lincoln Aviator.
The pedestrian was transported to Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Deegan, who told investigators he did not see the injured man in the roadway, was evaluated at the scene and found to be under the influence of alcohol the report states. He is facing one count of DUI with serious bodily injury.
