LAKELAND, Fl. (WFLA) – Five years ago Sunday a 25-year-old Lakeland Police Officer was shot to death by a Polk County teenager.
Arnulfo Crispin – ‘Arnie’ to those who knew him best – was killed in the line of duty on December 18, 2011. He was on patrol when he stopped a trio of teenagers in the 220 block of Crystal Grove Lane. It was just after 10 pm; Crispin was just getting out his vehicle to talk to the young men when he was shot.
Kyle Williams was arrested and ultimately convicted of the crime. He was 19 at the time and is currently serving a life sentence in the state’s prison system.
Crispin had been with the department just 18 months. A posting on the Lakeland Police Department’s Facebook page has a memorial for the fallen officer.
“We know he is always here with us watching over his family and his brothers and sisters in blue, you will forever be missed.”
It took a jury of five men and seven women four hours to find Williams guilty in August, 2014. During the three-week trial several of the young men who were with him that night testified it was Williams who pulled the trigger.
