PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A substitute Pasco County middle school teacher is charged with child abuse.

Evonne Francis, 59, was teaching in a 5th period class at Paul R Smith Middle School. “The defendant verbally scolded the victim because the victim was explaining that a student she was trying to remove from her class was innocent,” a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.

The victim told officials Francis “confronted him” and called him a “rude little boy.” The suspect allegedly told the victim to “shut his mouth and get out of the classroom.”

Francis then hit the child twice in the back using a yard stick, deputies said. Two other students saw the incident and detectives saw marks, according to the sheriff’s office.
