Smoking container found on US-301 in Hillsborough County

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday morning that US-301 has reopened at Symmes Road.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the situation along the road at 10 a.m.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a gallon container overturned with a smoking liquid covering a small portion of the intersection.

Crews closed the road to keep the public safe and called for the hazardous incident team.

The team identified the substance as an acidic liquid.

They suited up and removed it from the road using Hazmat absorbent and loaded it into a container for processing.

Fire Rescue said the incident doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

The container wasn’t labeled, but appeared to have fallen from the back of a moving vehicle.

No injuries were reported and no damage was done to the road.
