(WFLA) — The eastbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway have reopened after being shut down following a two-car crash.
According to City of Clearwater Public Safety, witnesses said Ioan Lupeanu, 19, was driving above the speed limit in foggy conditions and changing lanes repeatedly when she crashed in to the rear of a commercial van stopped because of traffic.
A child was transported by ground to a local hospital after allegedly not being properly restrained in the back seat.
Public Safety officials said the child was six months old.
The child sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the van was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital for minor injuries.
Clearwater Fire crews were on scene and rerouting traffic for traveler convenience.
The eastbound lanes were closed for three hours as traffic homicide detectives investigated.
Clearwater police will consult with the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office to deicde if charges will be filed.
