Tampa man dies following one-vehicle crash in Sarasota

Lewis, 27, died at the scene according to a FHP report.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) – A 27-year-old Tampa man was killed early Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on Tatum Rd. in Sarasota County.

Joshua Louis Bishop was pronounced dead at the scene just after midnight.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Bishop was traveling east on Richardson Rd. just west of Rancimo Rd. in his 2009 Chevrolet Sierra. He failed to negotiate a right curve traveling across the westbound lane before exiting the roadway.

The Sierra went airborne and traveled down an embankment. It landed on the northeast corner of the road before going airborne a second time; it then struck a mailbox and the entrance to the Tatum Ridge Golf Club – a large iron gate.

Investigators say the vehicle went airborne a third time before it landed in a large pond. The impact broke out the windshield and it became submerged.

The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking any additional witnesses to the crash. If you information please contact KC Paige with FHP’s Communication Center in Ft. Myers at 1-239-938-1800.
