BARTOW, Fla. (WFLA) – A cool new 2017 calendar lets you show your support for Polk County veterans, while helping them out, too.
The calendars, which can be purchased at the Polk County Veterans Services offices, are $10 each plus tax. The profit from these calendars will be used to help local veterans who are in need of basic items such as food and gas.
The 12-month calendar features veterans from different branches and includes those who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam through the present.
“I am very proud of our Polk County veterans,” said Mike Mason, Polk’s Veterans Services supervisor. “This calendar highlights several of them and their fantastic stories.
“You get to meet these veterans, such as J.J. Corbett, who was just inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame and Harry Alexander who was wounded three times in World War II while serving as a gunner on a PT boat in the South Pacific.”
“There are so many of our local veterans who just need a little extra support,” Mason continued. “Whether it’s to get a good meal, or to get some gas to make it to their next doctor’s appointment at the VA, the money raised from these calendars will help with that.”
A website for the calendar also features the stories of each veteran appearing in this year’s calendar. You can watch as these brave men and women recount their times in the service.
