LAND O’ LAKES, Fl. (WFLA) – A 67-year-old New Port Richey man is out of jail after posting bond following his driving under the influence arrest Friday night.

Jeffrey Alan Stern was traveling west on State Road 54 in Land O’ Lakes when he sideswiped a Pasco County Sheriff’s deputy patrol vehicle. The incident occurred just before 7 pm just west of the Sunlake Blvd. intersection.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the patrol car was stopped with its emergency lights activated when Stern’s 2016 Hyundai Sonata clipped it. Florida law requires drivers move over one lane when a first responder is on the scene.

The deputy was assisting a disabled vehicle on the westbound shoulder of the roadway.

Stern failed to stop but was eventually apprehended by the deputy. He is facing one count of DUI, one count of DUI involving property damage and one count of fleeing the scene of a crash involving property damage.

Stern and the deputy were not hurt in the collision.
