WASHINGTON (AP/WCMH) — NBC News is reporting Exxon Mobil CEO will serve as secretary of state under president-elect Donald Trump.
Tillerson, 64, has headed Exxon since 2006 and rose to the top of the oil giant through its energy business in Russia. Tillerson was awarded Russia’s order of Friendship last year.
Mr. Trump has reportedly been considering former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani as his picks; Giuliani took his name out of the running Friday.
Trump spokesman Jason Miller said no official announcements on the secretary of state position will be made until “next week at the earliest.”
