TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tampa police made an arrest in the SOHO kidnapping and robbery case. Officials announced the update Friday.
Johnathan Rogers, 32, is charged with robbery and kidnapping, but officials said other charges are possible.
The kidnapping happened Saturday morning in the 900 block of South Howard Avenue, which is where the popular businesses Daily Eats and Green Lemon are located.
Police say the victim was returning to her car around 2:10 a.m. after socializing with friends when an unidentified man came up behind her and struck her in the head. The woman lost consciousness, and was robbed and moved from the scene.
“A male suspect approached her, violently hit her, pushed her inside the vehicle and drove away with her inside the car. He robbed the victim and then left her inside the vehicle,” Tampa Police Department Spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said earlier this week.
Police said Rogers was released from prison in 2015 after serving eight years for cocaine trafficking. He has been charged with crimes in the Tampa Bay area and Okeechobee, police said.
Police told News Channel 8 Rogers moved to the Tampa area last year to blend in and start over. He worked at a Channelside restaurant for a time.
More charges are expected in the case.
