MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) – Mark Quartiano has been fishing off the coast of Miami for almost 40 years and has seen his share of suspicious activity on the water, but he made quite the different catch on Wednesday.

“Mark the Shark” said he happened to be using his video camera to capture the water about a mile off Miami Beach when he glanced over to see a somewhat submerged package.

Quartiano said he doubled back and fished out a brick, or kilogram, of cocaine.

He thinks the package had been in the water for a few weeks, as it had barnacles on it.

“Only in Miami,” Quartiano said.

“The Shark” has found marijuana barrels floating on the water before, but said cocaine is “pretty rare.”

The drugs were handed over to the US Coast Guard when the boat made dock.
