Fire destroys 60-foot yacht in Apollo Beach

APOLLO BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – Fire tore through a 60-foot luxury yacht as it was docked behind a home in Apollo Beach Tuesday night.

Crews rushed to the home on Dolphin Cove Drive around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. There wasn’t much that could be done; the yacht was destroyed.

The owner tells News Channel 8 he planned to sell the boat and showed it to an interested couple recently.

It had three staterooms, a kitchen and bathroom.

The listing price was $225,000, according to an online boat sales website.

Neighbors could see the fire from afar. “We could see the flames shooting up over the roof of the house,” said Pat Stone, who banged on the owner’s door to alert him to the fire.
