(WFLA) – Credit card users are using the holiday shopping season to stack up reward points.

Many cards offer perks. Users can earn rewards just by swiping.

Lois Moses could be called a pro when it comes to racking up credit card reward points. “It’s basically free money,” Moses said.

She uses an app, Shop Kick, that tells her how many points she can get at a given store. “The minute you walk into the door you get 25 kicks. If you scan something and buy it, you get so many,” Moses said.

Many consumers know loyalty programs are a big draw to use credit cards. “When you’re purchasing using Visa, MasterCard or American Express, we all know there’s different benefits for every card type,” Chargebacks 911 COO Monica Eaton-Cardone said.

Eaton-Cardone breaks down the rewards for each card. She said American Express is a top choice among shoppers.

“They give you points. If you get the gold card, then these are points that don’t expire; you can use them for travel. They have different promotions with select retailers, where you can get double points,” Eaton-Cardone said.

She said Visa is good for earning travel rewards. “In fact, Citibank recently partnered with Visa to offer some fantastic travel-related programs and you can get double points,” Eaton-Cardone explained.

She said MasterCard is great at protecting the buyer. “If you purchase a product, specifically if you purchase something online and you’re not satisfied, then they will assist you with returning that product,” Eaton-Cardone said.

Eaton-Cardone said you can also earn incentives shopping online. Log onto the credit card’s website to see a list of reward programs.

That’s good information for Moses and other holiday shoppers. “It’s very cool,” Moses said.
