NOKOMIS, FL (WFLA) — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Nokomis woman Friday after a 2-year-old child who was in her care, was found alone alongside a busy roadway.
Deputies say they were called to 710 Bayshore Road in Nokomis around 9 a.m. Friday, where a Good Samaritan found the toddler wearing only a soiled diaper, standing on the side of the road. A family member arrived at that time, who took custody of the toddler and contacted law enforcement.
Deputies responded to the home of 22-year-old Gianna Boults, who admitted to falling asleep while watching the child.
While deputies were inside Boult’s home, they say they observed more than 20 uncapped syringes in plain view as well as exposed wires and barely any food in the refrigerator.
According to deputies, Boults admitted that she was unable to care for the child due to her drug use. She was arrested and charged with felony Child Neglect.
