Thief steals 400 orange trees from Polk County grove

FROSTPROOF, Fla. (WFLA/AP) – Authorities in Polk County are looking for a thief who stole more than 400 newly-planted orange trees from a grove.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating the disappearance of the trees from a grove in Frostproof. They said 409 citrus reset orange tress were removed from the grove, located at Sangster Road and Old Avon Park Road, sometime between 7 p.m. on November 29th and 7 a.m. on November 30th.

The trees were valued at $3,000.

The trees were planted to replace others that had died.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Scarborough at 863-287-2224, and is eligible for a cash reward from Heartland Crime Stoppers Florida.
