LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives are searching for a woman who stole a package from the porch of a Lakeland home Thursday in broad daylight.
It happened at a home on George Wheeler Road. The woman was recorded by home surveillance video stealing the package, which contained a item valued at $500.
When the package did not arrive, the owner of the home, Cari Anne Baker, poured through surveillance footage. “I’m rewinding, rewinding, rewinding, and there she is. She walks up, grabs that package and takes off. My hands start shaking and I’m like, ‘She stole it; she stole it!'” Baker said.
Baker shared the video on her Twitter and Facebook accounts and quickly garnered more than 100,000 views and more than 20,000 shares. That led to someone identifying the woman in the video.
“A very close relative of the lady that did this confirmed that’s who it was,” Baker said.
Detectives have identified the suspect as 43-year-old Brandy Michelle Sumner. Sumner currently has five outstanding warrants and now faces additional charges for the porch theft.
“This is a person that we want to talk to. We want to talk to about all of the open warrants and make sure that she doesn’t get back out on the streets to take someone else’s Christmas,” Polk County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Donna Wood said.
