POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) — A Polk County deputy who was injured by a hit-and-run driver in October has been released from the hospital.
A video of of PCSO Deputy Adam Pennell being released from the hospital was shared with News Channel 8 from the Florida LEO and Fire/EMS Wives Facebook page on Sunday night.
Adam had a send-off from his fellow deputies and the Lakeland Eagles Cheerleaders as he left the hospital to go home.
“He made miraculous improvements while in rehab and exceeded every expectation,” it says on the Facebook page. “Adam still has a long road of healing ahead of him but at least he’s home.”
Deputy Adam Pennell, 25, was helping a woman on the median of State Road 60, after she had crashed on the shoulder. Pennell was hit and the woman, Jessica Enchautegui-Otero, 33, of Tampa, was killed by the hit-and-run driver.
Several days after the crash, 71-year-old Charles Lewis of Lake Wales was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death and involving injury.
