Outback Bowl will celebrate 30th anniversary Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) –The 2017 Outback Bowl game will be played on Monday, January 2nd along with the other traditional New Year’s Day bowls.

Game kickoff time is at 1:00 PM eastern time celebrating its 30th anniversary. The Outback Bowl hosts teams from the Big Ten Conference and Southeastern Conference at Raymond James Stadium.

Historically, if the first of January falls on a Sunday, then the traditional New Year’s Day bowls are played on Monday, January 2nd. This same situation arose in January 1989, 1995, 2006 and 2012.

Each year the Outback Bowl generates around $1 billion in the Tampa Bay area. The game also generates tens-of-millions of dollars in exposure for the region each year and has contributed more than $130 million to universities over its history.
