Grenade found by St. Pete child, 3, turned out to be toy

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) —  St. Petersburg police say a grenade that was found by a 3-year-old boy on a beach was actually a toy.

St. Petersburg Police Department officers and the Tampa Bomb squad responded to the private beach area in front of a vacant house at 2834 Pelham Rd. N

A woman had called 911 to report her son found what appeared to be an old grenade on the private beach area behind the home.

The item was paritally buried in the sand below the sea wall.

Police and the bomb squad determined that the “grenade” was really a toy.

“Better safe than sorry,” said SPPD in a tweet about the toy grenade..
