Florida man dies after hitting turtle with bicycle

INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a central Florida man died after striking a turtle with his motorized bicycle and crashing.

Florida Today reports that the crash occurred early Wednesday morning.

Brevard County rescue crews and deputies responded to the Indian Harbour Beach scene after 51-year-old David Kervin’s body was found in the road near the motorized bike. Investigators spotted the injured box turtle several feet away.

Investigators found no evidence that another vehicle was involved. An autopsy showed that Kervin’s head trauma was consistent with falling off his bicycle.

The turtle survived the crash with a small crack in the bottom of its shell. It crawled away with minor injuries.
