UPDATE: This victim has been identified as 58-year-old Linda Steve, of Crystal River. Foul play is not suspected at this time, investigators said.
“Steve was trying to turn around in a driveway located on a dirt road. When she put the car in reverse to back up, the car’s undercarriage got hung up on several large palmetto roots which prevented the car from moving forward. The vehicle and an approximate area of 30 feet around it burned significantly,” a Citrus County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson explained. “The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the state fire Marshall’s office. The cause and manner of death is still pending the Medical Examiner’s investigation.”
