TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – As many prepare for Thanksgiving dinner, shoppers camped out all week outside the Tampa Best Buy on Dale Mabry. They’re vying to be the first to get their hands on Black Friday deals, which begin on Thursday at Best Buy.
The first camper set up his spot last week. Chris Lee, who set up his tent Tuesday night, was second in line.
“I’m going to be camping for the TV; i’s a 50 inches for like $150,” the 23-year-old Lee said. “The main reason I’m here is the door-breaker deals.”
“I only leave if I get food or something or if I use the bathroom at McDonalds. It’s not like I’m leaving for 24 hours or something,” he added.
Best Buy manager Jim Murphy said this is the best ad he’s seen in four years. “Televisions are definitely where it’s at,” Murphy said. “Last year (the early campers) didn’t happen; last year it happened on about Monday of this week.”
“There are expectations for them to stay in their tents. Depending on the weather, they will sit in their car a little bit,” Murphy added. “There’s a lot of pre-planning; there’s a lot of finding out where stuff is put in the stores so they kind of have that idea.”
The doors at Best Buy open at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, giving shoppers the chance to grab their bargains and make it home in time for dinner.
