Wrong-way driver strikes Tampa Police car

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Police are investigating a wrong-way crash in downtown Tampa in which a driver struck a Tampa Police Officer’s patrol car early Monday.

Police say the officer was traveling east on Kennedy Blvd, near University of Tampa, just before 3:30 a.m. when a wrong way driver crashed into him while driving northbound from Hyde Park Avenue, which is a one-way southbound road.

The air bags on both the officer’s vehicle and the wrong-way driver’s vehicle deployed.

The officer was transported to TGH for treatment for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
