Red Flag Warning issued for parts of Tampa Bay

(WFLA) — With the extremely low humidity Monday, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for parts of Tampa Bay, Storm Team 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann says.

The Florida Forest Service indicates that areas along the coast will be in the Very High range of the Fire Danger Index, meaning “fires start easily from all causes and immediately after ignition, spread rapidly and increase quickly in intensity,” DeSoto County Emergency Management writes.

Experts recommend avoiding yard waste burning.

Fires burning in light fuels may quickly develop high intensity characteristics such as long-distance spotting and fire whirlwinds when they burn in heavier fuels.
