Michael Phelps’ announced retirement becomes official

Michael Phelps

(WFLA) – Michael Phelps made clear during the summer that he was retiring from swimming. “This is it,” he said during the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Phelps has now made that retirement official. “It was time to make his retirement official by completing paperwork that would take his name out of a drug-testing pool. Though Phelps has said for months the Rio Olympics were his finale, these papers would make him ineligible for competition,” NBC Sports reports.

Phelps finished his Olympic career with 28 medals, 23 of them gold.
