Boat explodes near Jacksonville

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. (WJXT) – Two people were rushed to the hospital this weekend after a boat exploded in Northeast Florida.

It happened in Green Cove Springs. That’s about 30 miles south of Jacksonville.

Police say several people were working on the boat when they heard a loud pop.

Suddenly, they were surrounded by flames and had to jump into the water, according to police.

Two people are receiving treatment for burns they suffered during the incident. A third person was treated at the scene.

The boat’s owner says the electricity was off on the boat while it was being worked on but, he, says, that a pump may have caused the explosion.
