ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) – Disney’s “Avatar”-themed land will open in Animal Kingdom next summer, Walt Disney World announced Saturday.
The attraction will feature floating mountains and bioluminescent rainforest plants, seen via a boat ride along the fictional Na’vi River, the company said in a statement.
The company did not announce a specific date within the summer 2017 time frame.
Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, spoke about “Avatar” and other coming attractions, including the “Star Wars” land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, during D23’s Destination D, a fan event held in Orlando.
Pandora – The World of “Avatar” will feature two attractions, the Na’vi Tour and the Banshee. When asked for more details about the Banshee attraction, Chapek said “it’s multi-sensory in a way that raises the bar higher than we’ve ever raised the bar before. There are elements of it that you will say are familiar, but the way things are integrated create a form of reality that we’ve not yet experienced.”
Destination D guests were also the first to see what the “Star Wars”-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will look like at night.
Chapek also said that a new adventure will be added to Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, based on elements of the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode 8.”
