TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa police on Thursday released a dramatic surveillance video that shows the chaos that happened in the moments before a car drove into an Ybor City bar.

Police are hoping someone will recognize the driver of the Nissan, who ran away after crashing it into the Bad Monkey located at 1717 E. 7th Ave.

Detectives say early Tuesday morning a fight involving several young men broke out around 3:30 a.m. near the Bad Monkey. The suspect got into a black Nissan and tried to leave by making a U-turn on 7th Avenue. The car hit the curb on the opposite side of the road.

The victim, Michael Silhol, 25, began hitting the suspect with his fists through the window when the suspect was making the U-turn and when the car was stuck against the curb.

Police say the suspect accelerated and turned the car’s front wheels left and right, in what appeared to be an effort to complete his U-turn.

As the struggle continue, the victim wound up in front of the car. Then, the suspect turned the front wheels in a manner that allowed him to accelerate over the curb. The car hit Silhol, who suffered minor head and leg injuries.  The car then crashed into the Bad Monkey bar, causing $15,000 in damage.

The driver ran away and police have not found him.

Detectives have not yet determined if the suspect intended to hit Silhol with the car.

They have three surveillance videos that show what happened. Police on Thursday released one of the videos. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
