TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Up early to catch a flight the morning after the 2016 Presidential Election, folks were following the results closely on their smart phones at Tampa International Airport, tracking electoral maps and poll numbers.
“I watched it all the way through and I was shocked, absolutely,” said Mary Hinderer.
Trump supporters at the airport were shocked in a good way, calling this Wednesday a “new day in America”.
“He’s not a politician, he doesn’t know foreign policy, but maybe it is time for us to have someone who doesn’t know something and trust somebody else,” said Johnny Houston.
Red or blue, there was one common thread between the folks at Tampa International: people are overjoyed the election is finally over.
Stella Hayes tells News Channel 8 they have had it with the constant political fighting and incessant campaign ads on TV.
“I don’t know how I feel, we will have to see what happens. We have to join together and all focus on the same thing,” said Hayes.
Regardless of who they voted for, people here in Tampa Bay will watch and wait now, hoping the country can heal after this divisive campaign season.
“I think with strong leadership and a clear path. This is America, the greatest nation in the world, and we will come together,” said John Zuckerman.
