HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Hillsborough County is an important county in the outcome of the Presidential Election.

Voters in Hillsborough have successfully picked the President of the United States in the last 19 out of 20 races, statistics show.

In 2012, President Barack Obama beat Governor Mitt Romney by more than 36,000 votes.

Four years before that, then-Senator Barack Obama garnered 219,580 votes while Republican Senator John McCain fell short with 209,503.

Experts explain the county has a make-up of voters from all walks of life, hence the close outcomes.

Every vote could ultimately help decide our next president. In 2000, the entire election was settled by 547 votes in Florida.
