ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) — Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden campaigned for Hillary Clinton in St. Petersburg on Monday. Jimmy Buffett performed after the Bidens spoke.
The Election Day eve event was held at Albert Whitted Park in St. Petersburg. As the sun set on the waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg, Buffett sang his trademark tunes to an adoring crowd of Hillary Clinton fans.
Vice President Biden talked about Florida’s importance in this election. “Man, you are some state. It always comes down to Florida,” Biden said. “It’s in the hands of the people of Florida. We can go to bed pretty early once the results of this state come in. I really mean it.”
If the closeness of Pinellas County early voting is any indication, it’s going to be a squeaker. Both major parties have tallied around 122,000 ballots cast.
Voters talked about the role of rallies.
“I think it gets people excited. It got me excited about being more involved in the political process,” Greg Dew said about the event.
“I don’t know if it sways votes, especially an election like this, at this point in time. But, certainly it rallies the troops,” voter Beth Bennion said.
Earlier Monday, the Bidens were in Tallahassee.
