Pinellas Co. teacher arrested for DUI after driving on the wrong side of the road

SAFTEY HARBOR, Fla. (WFLA) – A Safety Harbor Middle School teacher is facing DUI charges after Pinellas County officials say she was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Rita L. Carter, 31 was stopped at 12:05 a.m. on Saturday for driving on the wrong side of U.S. 19 Alternate near the intersection of Florida Avenue.

When the Pinellas County deputy pulled Carter over, he observed the driver had glassy, bloodshot eyes, appeared unsteady/staggering and had a distinct smell of alcohol on her breath, according to the suspect’s arrest affidavit.

Carter, who is listed as a math teacher at Safety Harbor Middle School, refused a breathalyzer and field sobriety tests.

Carter was subsequently arrested on DUI charges.
