UPDATE: Venice High School has been reopened. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad did not find any suspicious devices.
PREVIOUS STORY: VENICE, Fla. (WFLA) — Students at Venice High School have been evacuated to the football field due to a bomb threat at the school.
A Venice Police Department spokesperson said that the threat was received on Thursday afternoon.
Authorities are on scene and currently checking each building. All the students are accounted for and no one is being allowed on campus at this time while the investigation is underway.
Parents should be aware that students will be delayed from their release from school. Buses are being staged at this time.
Parent pickup has been moved to the Venice Community Center at 326 Nokomis Ave. S.; parents who normally pick up their children should go there, not the school, to do so. Kids who normally ride the bus home will leave from the school.
The Sarasota County School District is sending out automated calls to parents informing them about the incident.
