ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — Volcano Bay, Universal’s new water theme park, is opening in early summer 2017, and News Channel 8 has all the exclusive details for you.
Volcano Bay’s main attraction is called the Krakatau Aqua Coaster. Krakatau Aqua will be a first-of-its-kind water coaster in Florida.
The ride is designed to seat up to four guests in a canoe. Then, it will propel the canoe downwards and upwards through the volcano, twisting and turning along the way. Finally, you’ll cross some dark passageways and be launched through the water.
Krakatau Aqua Coaster will use linear induction motor technology, which launches the canoe uphill before it immediately sends riders into a downhill plunge. This is the same technology used in other Universal attractions, including Revenge of the Mummy.
The park is offering bands, called TapuTapu Wearable, for guests to wear around their wrists. The band can be used to virtually wait in line. You’ll receive an alert when your turn is coming up. The band will trigger attractions in the park like water spurts and water cannons.
Tickets for the park will go on sale on Nov. 15.
More details about Universal’s Volcano Bay will be revealed over time so stay with News Channel 8 for updates. You can view photos from the park below.
