HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Hillsborough County firefighters battled a blaze at a warehouse in the Town N’ Country area that sent clouds of smoke over the Veterans Expressway.
The warehouse is located at 5800 Barry Road & Benjamin Road in Hillsborough County, which is near Tampa International Airport and the Veterans Expressway.
The warehouse stores janitorial cleaning supplies and pet supplies. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said there are chemicals inside the building and there could be chemicals in the smoke.
Firefighters heard explosions inside the building while battling the blaze on Thursday afternoon.
Some animals are believed to have escaped from the warehouse.
Eagle 8 flew over the burning warehouse. The fire was causing the roof to sag and it appeared the roof could collapse. The fire did not appear to be spreading to nearby trees.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol asked people to use caution while driving on the Veterans Expressway. Eagle 8 flew over the Veterans Expressway and saw that two lanes were closed and traffic was backed up.
No injuries have been reported.
