Twitter to discontinue Vine

(WFLA) – The short-video app Vine announced on its Medium blog that the mobile app will soon be discontinued.

The Vine’s press release was posted to the blog Thursday. It said that the app will be shut down ‘in the coming months.’

According to the tech website The Verge, Twitter purchased Vine in 2012 before the app launched. Starting in 2013 its 6-second clips became a popular video format on Twitter.

The users will still be able to access their Vines and download them because the company plans to keep the website operational. The users will be notified of any changes to the app or the website.

Vine will share more details on its Medium blog and on Twitter.
