HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Saturday morning around 10 a.m. dive teams found a male body in the area where a boater went missing Friday.
A man was out on a rental boat with his fiancé when the boat hit a sand bar. The man jumped off the boat to get it off the sandbar but the man went underwater.
He resurfaced twice and his fiancé tossed him a life vest but he did not come back up on the third time.
The body was recovered near where the boater went missing. Officer James Boogaerts with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission urges boaters and swimmers to be careful.
“Anywhere you are boating, it’s important to keep your head on a swivel and look about you,” he said. “This is a very tragic, quite honestly very sad as investigators and officers, we just don’t want to see this happen.”
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Tampa Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and Tampa Fire Rescue all helped with the search.
