HOLIDAY, Fla. (WFLA) – A man is dead after he was shot by a Pasco County deputy in a situation that capped off an hours-long stand-off.
Deputies responded to a home along Bluejay Drive around 9 p.m. Sunday. Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said Eric St. Germain, 39, and his girlfriend were arguing and the man assaulted the woman, who’s pregnant. The man refused to leave the house.
SWAT members and negotiators were called to the scene to try to lure St. Germain from the home. He refused, and for two hours, didn’t communicate with deputies.
When they entered the house after midnight, they noticed towels sealing off a bathroom door. St. Germain appeared to keep the bathroom clear of pepper spray that was shot into the home.
SWAT members opened the door and that’s when Nocco said St. Germain lunged at deputies with knives. He was shot and killed.
“These are the hard things law enforcement goes through every day,” Nocco said. While people were sleeping in their beds peacefully, and now waking up in the early morning hours hearing this, know your Pasco deputies were out here to protect you. Know law enforcement across Tampa Bay and the country are out here to protect you.”
The victim, who hasn’t been named, is expected to be physically okay.
Nocco said St. Germain has a lengthy criminal history dating back to the mid-1990’s.
Neighbors said St. Germain worked as a telemarketer. He’d help them with odd jobs throughout the neighborhood.
