NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) – North Port Police located a skimming device at a Mobile gas station in the city this week.
NPPD working for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services checked the fuel pumps across North Port. They located the skimmer in the Mobile station on toledo Boulevard.
Officers said they had located skimmers at this gas station before.
NPPD reminded that the new law that went into effect Oct. 1 requires self-service fuel dispensers to have certain security measures to prevent theft of consumer information. That includes security tape and approved locks.
The measures also include increased enforcement authority against fraudulent card traffickers and owners.
NPPD officers also said that the local Racetrack and Walmart stations have alarms that will sound if somebody tampers with the pumps. It will also shut them down.
